On May 25, Keyla M. Galarza López represented MBS at the “Assises de la feminisation des métiers et des filières du numérique” organized by La Mêlée. Find out more about her career path, from her first steps in design in the Dominican Republic to her thesis on the accessibility of new technologies, which she is currently finalizing as part of MBS’s MSc in Digital Transformation and Business Consulting program.

“I’m 27 years old and although I know today what career choices I want to make, this hasn’t always been the case. Until I was 18, I focused on art. Then I was able to capitalize on my creative skills to pursue studies in communications and advertising, through a Bachelor’s degree in the Dominican Republic, my home region.

At the end of this degree, I began my career in an advertising agency. I got my first taste of the business before going freelance and then joining a startup developing a social media application for animal lovers.

I became a Project Management Assistant, working daily with a team of international developers. I’m responsible for designing the application and improving the user experience, and this position has enabled me to develop a real range of digital skills, which has led to my promotion to Lead UX Designer.

But I knew I wanted to keep learning, and this intercultural experience within the team made me want to take up the challenge of studying abroad.

I chose France and joined the MBS Grande Ecole program. My progress within this curriculum offered me the opportunity to do an internship in the Netherlands, as a Digital Marketing Specialist, and then in my final year, to join the MBS MSc in Digital Transformation and Business Consulting, directed by Dr Donoxti Baylon.

I’ve fallen in love with this program because of the strong friendships I’ve made and the diversity of the participants’ backgrounds.

Along the way, I’ve been able to question the real motivations behind my career choices. Unfortunately, I lost my father this year, and returning to France was difficult. Today, my mother is a new source of motivation and I hope to be able to build a better future for the people I love.

At the end of the MSc, I’m thinking of prioritizing my search for a career in the Netherlands, Germany or Denmark, again in the digital field, because these tools are stable in the long term, and because I’ve been able to develop real expertise within the program.

In fact, it echoes the subject of my thesis, dedicated to the accessibility of technologies, and how to make them more inclusive in terms of age, experience, disability…”.
