Testimonial – The Digital DBA: a solution to maintain relevance professionally according to Sarah Shaughnessy

The Digital Doctorate in Business Administration (DDBA) program is a three-year online program that empowers professionals to conduct their own research and develop a solid understanding of the concepts and theoretical underpinnings of their core business. Sarah Shaughnessy, Vice President Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand at Emirates Airline, is participating in the program to address the evolution of her job and to give more meaning and impact to her work. Today she shares the first analysis of her journey.

Why and when to choose the DDBA?

Participants in the DDBA Program are executives, entrepreneurs, consultants or accomplished managers who wish to gain a competitive advantage and link their professional experience to the academic world. In concrete terms, by conducting a first research project in their field of activity, these experts have the opportunity to give a new boost to their career and open up the possibility of pursuing a career in higher education.

The first year of the program consists of two blocks of teaching to learn how to carry out a research project. The program continues with two years devoted to the thesis, under the supervision of the professors and researchers who have enabled MBS to be the first and only French management school to be included in the Shanghai 2021 ranking on its own.

Coping with the increasingly rapid evolution of the business world

Sarah Shaughnessy has been with Emirates Airline since 2006 and is currently Vice President Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand. The health crisis was an opportunity for her to review her career : “Marketing has changed rapidly over the last few decades, and is now truly, a data-informed science.  My ability to maintain relevance as a career professional depends on my ability to continue to learn, to work with and make sense of data at scale, and to investigate problems through statistical analysis and research design which allow me to solve problems and improve the impact of my work.”

A unique international experience with a schedule adapted to professional life

To carry out her career plans, Sarah can rely on an international community of researchers and professionals. “I wanted to attend a school that had an international ethos.  The faculty at MBS reflect the diversity and international values that I felt were critical for a meaningful, academic experience today.  My cohort is from around the world: we convene once a month to participate in the taught portion of the program.  I find the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and learn from people based around the world to be super exciting and stimulating, even though it’s a bit of a logistical challenge! ”

” The structure of the program also allows me to balance the demands of work and family in a manageable and supportive way.  I certainly look forward to completing the next few courses in the program and focussing on my research project.  It will be an exciting few years ahead! “she concludes.
