Solidarity week – MBS students showed a strong mobilization for hospitalized children

A few days before Christmas, Montpellier Business School’s students and associations showed a great generosity by launching the “Solidarity Week” on their own initiative. They wanted to collect as much money as possible to provide toys for hospitalized children. The initiator of this project, Alexandre Lechat, who studies for a Master of Science in International Business at MBS, discusses this beautiful story!

How did you get the idea for this Solidarity Week at MBS?

This idea came to me quite naturally during various exchanges with MBS students. I was looking to set up an event that would be able to bring the students together but also that involves all of MBS’ actors (teachers, administrators, etc.). Several options were discussed before we decided to go for a charity event. The idea of raising funds for children hospitalized at the Arnaud University Hospital in Villeneuve was close to my heart because I was hospitalized there for two years when I was a child. I very quickly received the green light from the MBS administration to organize this action. The process was very fluid and things worked out pretty quickly.

Who participated in this Solidarity Week and how?

This project was carried out in partnership and on a voluntary basis with the 15 MBS associations and clubs. In less than three days, each president had responded positively and with a great motivation! So during the week of December 10-16th, each of the student associations organized an activity or an event and took care of everything from communication to fundraising.

What is your evaluation of this event?

I am really happy and the results are very positive. At the beginning, I had set myself the goal of raising 500€ and we finally got 600€. In addition, this week allowed the students to unite around a useful and supportive project with the aim of delivering gifts. It was therefore on Friday, December 21, with several members of the MBS associations, that we offered games and toys to the children through the managers of the hospital’s games library. It was a beautiful moment with a lot of emotion.
