Good news! Apprenticeships are becoming available up to the age of 30 for students of Montpellier Business School

 

In 2017, MBS celebrates 20 years of apprenticeships, but also the symbolic crossing of the barrier of 1,000 sandwich students in one year (1,010 apprentices and 176 training contracts). But another reason to rejoice is the move to apprenticeship access up to the age of 30 instead of 25. Mr Pascal Berquet is the administrative manager of the MBS Apprentice Training Centre and an apprenticeship advisor at Montpellier Business School. He explains why this change is important for future sandwich students over the age of 25.

Since its publication in the Official Gazette, the Decree of 20 March 2017 allows students to obtain an apprenticeship contract up to the age of 30 provided their Apprentice Training Centre (CFA) is situated in one of the following regions: Brittany, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Centre-Val de Loire, Grand Est, Hauts-de-France, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Ile-de-France, Pays-de-la-Loire and Occitanie. MBS can therefore send all its apprentices up to the age of 30 to all companies in France without restriction.

"Apprenticeship is a genuine springboard to employment since 41.48% of the 2016 graduates from all Montpellier Business School programmes were recruited by their company after their sandwich training." Pascal Berquet underlines. "This has also been the primary lever in our equal opportunities policy for over 20 years and I am very pleased that our region approves and is an integral part of the measure to extend the legal age beyond which an apprenticeship contract is now valid! That a student or employee aged over 25 and under 30 can sign an apprenticeship contract is a real plus for all candidates who enrol in our competitive examinations dedicated to sandwich courses, or who choose this route in each of the MBS programmes (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Tourist Establishment Management and even the computer engineering diploma from EPF Montpellier registered in our Apprentice Training Centre) and whose searches will be somewhat facilitated with an apprenticeship contract funded by the apprenticeship tax in relation to a professionalisation contract funded by the OPCA (Authorised Joint Collection bodies)".

"By extending the age of these contracts, we will be able to open the doors of our training courses to older candidates who want to combine their professional experience with the validation of a degree and to welcome new types of students," adds Pascal Berquet. "For example, an employee between the ages of 26 and 30 can, via our specific Continuing Professional Development Programme, start his/her training by suspending his/her permanent contract to sign an apprenticeship contract before getting back or having a new permanent contract in his/her company. Everyone wins. Moreover, we will be able to direct our sandwich course students who will be between 26 and 30 years old in any region, since our CFA is located in Occitanie, which is one of the regions involved in the trial.”

Apprenticeships up to the age of 30 are on trial until 3 December 2019. The aim being that after this date, this rule becomes permanent throughout France.
