From apprentice to marketing coordinator of a 5 stars’ hotel in Rio! The successful experience of Maeva, 2009 graduate, at the AccorHotels group

In France for few weeks of holidays, Maeva Andriambololo-Nivo took the time to contact us to tell us about her Brazilian adventure! Marketing coordinator of Cesar Park hotel of Jameiro Panema managed by Sofitel, she remembers her evolution at AccorHotels, the group she joined in 2008 thanks to the last Master study year in apprenticeship.

Maeva didn’t imagine begin such an adventure joining AccorHotels within her last Master study year in 2008… Because 8 years later, she is still a part of this big company! “Hostelry sector always attracted me since my internships within my studies at the IUT GEA of Sceaux. But my decisive meeting with my future employers took place in Paris, at a hostelry field specialized show. Then I integrated an innovative formation of AccorHotels which consisted to form next deputy directors of the most dynamic brand: Ibis. This formation had the particularity to be only open for students from business schools belonging to the CGE, by apprenticeship contracts and we were less than 10 selected applicants for this 1rst year”

“In the framework of this course, I integrated the Ibis hotel at Paris Orly Airport, then Ibis Hotel at Paris Orly Rungis. The formation is split in 3 times: first, operational posts discovering -passing by dish washing to reception desk-, then leadership posts -restauration then housing responsible assistant-, and finally the managerial post as direction deputy, alongside with the official deputy, the number 2. I was immediately able to implement what I learned the previous week at school”.

Once graduated, Maeva integrated her first permanent post as Excecutive assistant at Ibis Strasbourg Centre Halles. “In 4 years at this post, I implemented every part of operational management, people management, HR, audit, customer relationship, as well as project management such as the complete renovation of the hotel and the restaurant.”

From Strasbourg to Rio de Janeiro

“I always wanted to live abroad”, Maeva says. “My first experience as Executive assistant has to be in France. So, I chose Strasbourg: Symbolically it is the European capital, which welcomes numerous European and international institutions. Then in 2013, I had the opportunity to meet the Managing Director of Ibis Latin America. That is how I was able to work in Brasilia. The country was rapidly expanding, ready to welcome the 2014 FIFA World Cup, then the 2016 Olympic games.”

“I arrived in Brazil with for main purpose the opening of Ibis hotel of Rio de Janeiro Parque Olimpico, as Executive assistant. A strategic hotel for AccorHotels, because it is the first hotel bought by American investors Host, and with a unique location.”

From Ibis to Sofitel

Strong of her experience in operational management, Maeva felt the need to relocate herself on project management or analytic supporting. “My meeting with the general manager of the Caesar Park Hotel Rio de Janeiro Ipanema managed by Sofitel has been decisive at this moment. My relational qualities and my knowledges from operational positions and AccorHotel allowed me, last June,  to get the position of marketing coordinator. We are in a brand and commercial marketing. My task is extremely stimulating: we are turning the hotel as a lifestyle hotel, a living space for happy few cariocas de la Zona Sul”.

“My work consists in coordinating each communication offices to ensure that the message hits our target (medias, social network, graphic design), public relationship, Brand Sofitel setting up by AccorHotels headquarter, internal communication support alongside different department managers. Since my arrival, we have an average of 5 great marketing events a month” our 2009 graduate concludes.

If you go to Rio de Janeiro on next months, you already know where to go to have good time and meet a Montpellier BS graduate!
