The Business School Impact Survey (BSIS) values the annual economic and social impact of Montpellier Business School on its campuses at €160 million!


The National Foundation for the Teaching of Business Management (FNEGE) which works for some 80 management establishments in France, has developed, with the EFMD (European Foundation For Management), the leading European accreditation agency, the BSIS, an innovative tool for measuring the economic, social and community impact of higher education institutions in their regions. Launched in early 2015, this annual study evaluates the overall impact of Montpellier Business School in its region at €160 million per year.

"This is the first time that a study has dealt with the overall annual economic impact of a higher education institution from a business perspective. However, the Management Grandes Ecoles (Elite French Universities), such as Montpellier Business School, have become, within a few years, genuine academic enterprises working for their regions and faced with heightened international competition. Montpellier Business School now has a payroll of over 200 employees. It trains more than 2,900 students and awards degrees to some 800 students across all its programmes every year. It was important for us to measure our economic impact on the region of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole (€130 million) as well as on our region (€160 million), because in our environments, it is rare that we take into account the overall economic dimension of higher education institutions such as Management Grandes Ecoles. Schools are too often perceived merely as purveyors of young executives to companies", says Didier Jourdan, the Managing Director of Montpellier Business School.

The BSIS measure compiles around a hundred criteria for assessing the impact of a business school. They are classified into three families: financial and economic impact, social impact and image impact.

"Truly complementary to existing international accreditation processes, this study revealed the most unexpected advantages", adds Didier Jourdan. "In addition to the fact that our benefits are considerable on all levels, it has, in particular, caused internal awareness of the role of our school in which everyone, at their own level, finds an evaluation of their personal contribution. Moreover, these results are completely in line with the objectives of the 2013/2018 strategic plan voted by our governance and prove that beyond the training of young managers who will create the wealth of tomorrow in their daily activity, our action invariably creates value for our region every day".
