What if you follow your instincts? The journey of Madévi, a 2012 graduates

3 years already… Madévi, who graduated in 2012, tells us about her story. Starting off straight after graduating as an assistant Contrôleur de Gestion at Oberthur Technologies, she has since been working for a year and a half as a Financial Controller for a division of Business & Decision. Life is great for Montpellier Business School graduates! She tells us about her journey.

“It was through my BTS Banque that I managed to start my experiences in business at Société Générale, and I thank them for giving me my first start. It was at this point that one of my teachers spoke to me about the Formation Initiale Alternée, which would allow me to pursue a Bac+5 (Master’s) as a sandwich course. Montpellier Business School was the only school that provided this course. Despite being offered a permanent contract, I decided to take my chances and I’ve never looked back.”

Starting at the Master Grande École – ESC Montpellier through the FIA course meant finding a 3-year apprenticeship course. “Finding this contract… it was difficult. It meant applying for things you wanted to do, the jobs you hoped to do. I was mainly attracted to the financial jobs… I went out during the 2008 crisis and searched throughout Montpellier. I’ll always remember Thursday 15th October, the Financial Director of the Southern European headquarters of DELL phoned to tell me they wanted to take me on as part of their team for 3 years as a Junior Controller.”

Madévi won’t forget her years at DELL Montpellier, or her courses. “We were a very solid group; a small lecture of 50 first year students… Then in second year I was elected as a representative. I worked in a great atmosphere and I always feel a bit nostalgic when I think about my teachers, my workmates, and the admin staff at the school. The apprentices were a minority back then, but now there are 820! Working in a business taught me a lot. I became a lot more confident in myself and it gave me a lot more responsibility. It’s important to find where you belong.”

Madévi aims to help other students that are enthusiastic and determined to enrol at Montpellier Business School. She’ll take part in the next judging panel of oral examinations for the 2015 admissions. “I’m very attached to my school. If it weren’t for this school, I wouldn’t be where I am today. There is no luck in life, and you must follow your instincts. Today, I would love to pass on my knowledge and to contribute to the success of others. If I can help anyone, I’ll be delighted!”

Any advice? “Enrol immediately and start thinking about your next step. Your school years are the best years of your life. Enjoy them! If I could, I would do them again. I’ve got some beautiful memories and did some incredible things. But you’ve got to put in the effort and never give up. You never know what will happen… follow your heart! After applying to DELL, I applied for another 6-month employment offer without really thinking I’d get the job, but now I’ve just signed my three-year contract! Today, I’m 26 years old, have a Master’s, and 7 years of professional experience.

A huge thank you to my employers and Montpellier Business School.”

Come along for the oral exams!
